Today the oil is an important export commodity of Austria and Slovenia. It is made by pressing roasted hulled pumpkin seeds (pepitas) from a local variety of pumpkin the Styrian oil pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo subsp. pepo var. styriaca also known as var. oleifera).
